We had hundreds of filmmakers submit their films for consideration in to the upcoming 2019 NatureTrack Film Festival, March 22-24, 2019. While we are reviewing the submissions, we recently asked them about what inspired them as a child to grow up and create films about nature.

Applicant Katharina Stieffenhofer, From Seed to Seed, related that her love and deep appreciation of Nature was cultivated at an early age when she was growing up on a small, mixed farm on an island in the Rhine river in Germany. She learned how to grow food from planting seeds in the garden, tending to the plants, and harvesting in the fall. She also learned about animal husbandry and about taking care of the soil. She says her life evolved with the progression of the seasons and the natural cycles on the farm, and she developed an understanding of the interrelation of natural systems. She feels her films about ecological agriculture are created to transmit that love, appreciation, and understanding of how to grow food in a way that regenerates the land, farming, and communities toward a truly sustainable future for all of us.

The NatureTrack Film Festival would like to thank Katharina, for giving us permission to share her experiences with nature as a child; those which inspired her to create the films she does as an adult. We wish her all the best in her endeavors.

We would love to hear what experiences you had with nature at a young age that inspired you to choose your career path as an adult! Share with: holly@naturetrackfilmfestival.local

NatureTrack, the 501(c)3 non-profit which sponsors the NatureTrack Film Festival, is fortunate to have specially trained volunteer naturalists who enjoy sharing their knowledge and love of the outdoors with students. Inspired by their own experiences as children, the NatureTrack docents lead students onto local trails, spending time in oak woodlands, chaparral, grasslands, coastal sage scrub, and other regional ecosystems, so the kids can learn the wonder of what is in their own “backyard”. Fostering a lifelong fascination with nature through free outdoor field trips,

NatureTrack is excited to offer an event which expands upon that core mission by “igniting passion for nature” through film for all age levels.

The NatureTrack Film Festival is located in the charming town of Los Olivos. On March 22-24, 2019 we invite everyone to enjoy a Film Festival which supports the next generation of empowered nature lovers!
